Evelyn Cheesman and Gumley latest

A couple of days ago I wrote:

I was first attracted to Evelyn Cheesman by the suggestion that she had started her career as a governess at Gumley Hall near Market Harborough.

To discover the truth of that I shall have to get hold of one of her two volumes of more straightforward memoirs.

It turns out that the entry from Gumley in the Victoria County History of Leicestershire cites Cheesman's book Things Worth While as its authority for the statement that the woods there "contained many foxes and badgers".

So that is the book I need to read.
