Lib Dem MEP's son is new Sun political editor

Iain Dale reports that Tom Newton-Dunn is to take over as political editor of the Sun following the departure of George Pascoe-Watson.

Tom is the son of Bill Newton-Dunn, Liberal Democrat MEP for the East Midlands.

Of course Bill Newton Dunn was a Tory MEP until 10 years ago, so the chances of his son's allegiances defecting with his father at the same time is unlikely.

Being political editor of a popular daily is a highly-skilled job. No doubt political orientation played a part in the appointment, but ability to write well must have been the main criterion.

The Sun, as in the conservative, celebrity gossip, homophobic, misogynist, tits-on-page 3 rag which supports the war and tells people to vote for right-wing idiots? Interesting...
