Odds on the next England manager

OGPaper.com reports the odds on who will succeed poor Steve McClaren:

Jose Mourinho is now 5/1 favorite with William Hill to succeed Steve McClaren as permanent England manager. Hills make Martin O'Neill 11/2 second favorite and also offer 6/1 Scolari; 7/1 Hiddink; 10/1 Pearce; 12/1 Lippi; 12/1 Alan Shearer;16/1 Curbishley, Capello, Allardyce, Redknapp, Wenger; 25/1 Venables.

Which makes it odd that chief sports correspondent of The Times has just filed an article on the subject that does not even mention his name.

I'm free! I'm torn between England manager, controller of BBC1 and next leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Mourinho would be cool, but I agree that he probably wouldn't want the job.

If its Mourinho, I'm supporting Andorra.

Tempting though the Mourinho option is, it would make sense to have someone who has actually been an international manager. As our experiences with Don Revie, Graham Taylor and Sven Goran Eriksson showed, success in club management is by no means a guarantee of success at international level. Of that shortlist, Scolari and Hiddink seem way ahead of the field in terms of their experience and track record in major championships.

Why all the talk a bout a foreign manager, why can't we just get an English manager, some one who can motivate the team. I think even Alan Shearer could do it but honestly we need an English manager.

So are they looking for someone with previous sporting and leadership experience who finds themselves at a loose end at the moment? I'm sure there must be someone who fits that bill...

There are no decent english managers which is why we have to go abroard, this shows the state of the english game. I think Mourinho would be the best choice. Eventhough people go on and on about international experience he has proven that he is more than capable of leading any side to glory. Jose for the job i say.
And if martin o'neil takes over i think it would be just wrong to have a scotsman as an england manager, although i think he would be able to do the job well.

i dont think shearer has the ability to manage any team. too bland, although he is a ledgend and would command alot of respect. i believe there are a few good england managers, big sam at newcastle would be fantastic and eventually stewart pearce would be good for england when he gets the experiance. For now though i think the likes of scolari, capello etc would be the safe option and hopefully bring back england towards the top of their game

If you want an English manager to mange the English team it has to be Redknapp. He is by far the most consistant English manager of a Prmeiership side in the last 2/3 years and always seems to get the best out of any team he manages. Why is he so underatted?

Voters on our poll seem to think Mourinho is the man for the job… though there have been some votes for Sky’s Jeff Stelling!

Martin O'Neil would be the saffest option he is a manager in the prem league, also cannot take A Villa anymore foward.

He will know the players in the english leagues and will gain respect and be value for his money.

Why take someone abroad who coaches or Mourhino who will brake the bank and not even interested in the position. ?.
